I wrote a story for an August call for submissions about lighthouses. I mean, I live in Nova Scotia, so I had to, right?
Funnily enough, I hadn’t been to any lighthouses since moving here last May. Drawing off a visit to Cape George a few summer trips ago and a photo I scrolled past once of a lighthouse encrusted in huge icicles, I wrote a creepy story and submitted it.
Something else hilarious? I went to three lighthouses the month following the deadline. Here they are: one in Annapolis Royal, on Georges Island, and at Peggy’s Cove.

I’m excited to announce that the short story was accepted for the At the Lighthouse anthology published by Eibonvale Press and edited by Sophie Essex! I’m not sure about the publication date yet, but I’ll post more when I can!
The story features a lighthouse in the far future and has some cosmic horror elements. It was definitely a mood writing it, and I’m so thrilled that it has a home!
One more lighthouse photo, which I think captures the feel of the story a little better (but imagine it in the heart of winter).
