It’s that quiet week after Christmas when the old year winds down and the new year (according to this calendar anyway) is just over the horizon. Hopefully, you all are staying warm and well in this waiting time. Since I’m feeling reflective, here’s my last blog post of 2022!
2022 was a journey of a year. We moved to a less stressful living space, spent some wonderful summer times with friends and family. My husband and I also adapted to his change in mobility, which definitely made me more aware of restrictive spaces – Halifax is not the most accessible city! Still, we found a few new cafes and had fun exploring our new neighbourhood, finding abandoned railway lines and paved park pathways. I also got to be a vendor at a few events, meet local creatives, and participate in a small corner of Halifax’s rich arts scene.
A milestone for me as a writer this year was finishing the Patch Project series with the release of Where Long Shadows End. It’s still surreal that people are reading books that I wrote and are talking about them! I’m so thankful to bookstores in Halifax and Windsor that continue to feature my books and share them with new readers.
Speaking of, I want to thank all of you for supporting me this year, whether it’s by reading this blog, posting about my books, attending events, helping me meet my goals on my Ko-Fi page, or commenting on my social media. It’s helped me feel connected while adjusting to a new city, and has encouraged me to keep writing!
2023 is shaping up to be full of projects! Here are a couple of upcoming publications to watch out for:
- Review of World Running Down by Al Hess – Thanks to Angry Robot Books for sending me an Advanced Reader Copy! I’m super excited for this cozy post-apocalyptic novel to come out on February 14, 2023.
- Short story publication – Eibonvale Press‘s lighthouse-themed anthology will be released sometime in 2023! My story “Safe Passage” will be featured!
- Adventure Worlds Press anthology – Still in the planning phase, but I’m excited to be writing a story for my publisher’s 10th anniversary anthology!
In 2023, I’d like to submit more short stories and get one of my works in progress ready to send out to publishers/agents. Maybe host a reading, or get a table at HalCon. And keep writing with my friends, online and hopefully in person sometime!
Thanks for coming along on this reflective journey with me! Wishing you all the best for 2023!
